The GRH -- Gesellschaft fur Rechtliche und Humanitare Unterstutzung (Society to Support Justice and Human Rights) -- was founded in 1993 as an act of solidarity for people subject to politically-motivated prosecutions for their past activities on behalf of the German Democratic Republic.

Reflecting this commitment, a GRH solidarity committee has circulated a petition at an annual peace festival in Strausberg (near Berlin) which hundreds of people have signed. The petition read: "Wir fodern die Freilassung der Politischen Gefangenen in der USA (We support the release of political prisoners in the USA) Kurt Stand, Theresa Squillacote und James Clark."

In addition, the GRH has engaged in fund-raising to help pay some of the legal costs associated with the case as well as other support activities.
